While one can joke that if you ask 10 people the condition of a Mikvah bath you’ll get 25 answers, fundamentally you have 1 answer in common: humidity!
Mikvahs are essentially pools, although a bit small, and just like an indoor pool, if the humidity is not treated right, there could be issues. Without proper humidity control you can get condensation, rust and mold collecting on cold surfaces as well as puddles and mushy sheetrock if not done right.
For a typical Mikvah, the water temperature is going to be approximately 95F-105 (women tend to be cooler; men hotter). Our opinion is to maintain the space at 75-85F (Men with the hotter air temps like the air cooler; women the opposite) and humidity between 50-60% RH. the warmer the air, the less load the equipment would have to work, lowering the capital and operational costs. We also need to consider the air flow (we recommend 6 air changes) and bringing in fresh air and keeping a slight negative pressure in the space.
While we would appreciate a call from you to size it correctly, the average Mikvah ranges 1-2 lbs of moisture per hour. We can provide 1 dehumidifier for multiple spaces or 1 per space depending on your space.

Why should it Matter?
- While there are no chemicals, the very warm water will evaporate quickly and condense on the walls and ceilings. This can create issues with slippery floors, mold and some extreme cases, water damage to structural members that over time can create very costly issues which would have to be addressed. We have seen spaces neglected and it may be okay at first, but the water will settle where it should not. Pay now or pay later!
