| Indoor packaged units are also known as Dual Ducted or SCAV (Self-Contained Air Cooled Vertical) Units. This equipment provides a centralized system for HVAC without the need for an outdoor condenser or condensing unit. Units are flexible in concept in tonnage, heat type and ways to control. They can be split or a package. The magic of how this is achieved is by ducting the condenser air in and out to the unit. This way you don’t need to reserve a shaft on a roof to bring supply air down to a remote floor or have the risk of elaborate refrigerant piping for a traditional split system. Units larger than 7 tons will typically have 2 compressors for redundancy and can be free blowing with a simple plenum or ducted with 1-2″ of external static pressures.
While many brands (York, Skymark, United Cool Air, Carrier) have dropped their offering, Skil-aire has been expanding to fill the need. SCAV units (or horizontal systems) will be built to order based on the application. We can provide h0t gas reheat, for dehumidification and humidifier section to add humidity as well as hot-gas bypass and digital compressors for precision and energy efficiency. Replacing a RTU many times means simply replace the box on the curb and you are all set. For an indoor unit you must consider the time and effort to pull the old unit out and getting the new unit in. Many times the existing unit was built during the building construction and it will be near impossible to simply “swap boxes”. We can split the units to allow an easier rig.
